Thank you all for your ongoing support to what is going to be a truly great event in October this year.
Some of you may be wondering why we have withdrawn the “Simon Townshend To Play The Who Convention” news story on the site and please allow us to clarify.
When we posted this story, it was done in good faith and with assurance that this was absolutely and definitely the case. Subsequently however, we have encountered something of hiccup, which almost brought on a coronary. So, at the moment we think that there is a very good chance that he will play and we are very confident that he will be attending. It is important to remember that anything that Simon may or may not do for us is generously contributed from his own energies, time and resources.
The Who Convention is organised by an informal collective of fans and enthusiasts. Fortunately, there are lots of very talented Who fans who are musicians, journalists, raconteurs, graphic designers, printers, vendors, sound engineers and many other things, who support the Convention by donating their talents, enthusiasm and goodwill. The reward that these contributors receive is entirely in seeing the day come together and rocking out in the name of The Who.
Organising this type of event is a little bit like alchemy. We would love to have a repeat of 2006 when Roger materialized after an Arsenal game and made a cameo performance. We would love to have Pete there too.
The Simon announcement was made in very good faith, but as a question mark has since risen we have removed the article so as not to mislead. We hope to have more news on this shortly and will be updated on this site.
In the meantime, here are the positives. We have the mighty Wholigans coming over to the UK from the US to rock Dingwalls, which is a first rate venue. Also confirmed on the bill are Who Are You?, a UK Who tribute band and we have some other acts shortly to be announced. We also have some very special guests lined up from Who history, and we expect to have more coming along too.
So, there are many things to look forward to, and most of all, this event will be what a Who Convention does best, which is to get Who Fans together for a big party and share in what we all love. We will raise some money for good causes too, which gives a really terrific philanthropic dimension to the whole experience.
Tickets will be available soon. We have asked the venue to organise these on our behalf. There should not be any problems for overseas purchases and payment can be made using all the conventional methods.
