Thunderclap Newman joins the lineup!

The Who Convention 2010 at Dingwalls has now completed its line up for the main day with the addition of a true legend from Who history, Thunderclap Newman!

ThunderclapNewman

Created in 1969 by Pete Townshend as a band to perform the songs of John 'Speedy' Keen, Thunderclap Newman had a number one hit with the now iconic song, Something In The Air in 1969. This single featured Pete playing bass under the pseudonym of Bijou Drains and was also produced by Pete, his only UK number one hit.

The line up still features the pianist Andy 'Thunderclap' Newman and now has long time Townshend collaborator, Mark Brzezicki on drums and Pete's nephew Josh Townshend filling the boots of Speedy Keen on vocals and guitar.  Bass is played by Tony Stubbins and Nick Johnson is on lead guitar.

Film aficionados will recall hearing Something In The Air in the final scenes of The Magic Christian, memorably directed by former Goon Show writer Joseph McGrath, in which Ringo Starr and Peter Sellers engaged in some Gustav Metzger-esque anti-capitalist mischief.  It has also appeared in films such as Kingpin (1996), Almost Famous (2000), The Dish (2000) and The Girl Next Door (2004).

Thunderclap Newman has a very special and unique place in Who history. This new line-up emerged only in February of this year to critical acclaim and will give this year's event an extra dimension.

The Who Convention 2010 can now confirm that the main day at Dingwalls will feature Mikey Cuthbert (Acoustic Set), The Dukes Jetty, Thunderclap Newman and will be headlined by the mighty Wholigans.

We still hope that there may be more surprises.  The schedule for the main day is to start at 1pm with full live bands commencing at 5pm. We are deliberately scheduling live bands to finish at approximately 10:30pm to aid those with long journeys home, though the venue will remain open until late.

Tickets are still available for both nights, but are going fast. Purchase your tickets today!
